RAPID CITY, SD - An Extreme Showcase of South Dakota’s finest high school cowboys and cowgirls is what you’ll find when you make your way to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center’s Barnett Arena on Sunday, January 27, 2018 at 1:00 pm., for rodeo action that includes top PRCA  contract acts.  Kim Sutton says the event offers some of the best rodeo action of the entire stock show run.

“It’s the best high school kids from the whole state, from every region. Every year I get letters from kids that share things like, ‘I can’t believe I just roped in the same box Trevor Brazile roped in!’   She continues, “The kids just love it and it really shows in the performances they give.”

One hundred and twenty four top high school rodeo athletes will be geared up and ready to go as they get an opportunity to showcase their rodeo talents during the 16th Annual 20X Showcase.  South Dakota has four regions of high school rodeo contestants.  The top three cowboys and cowgirls from each region in each event, based on points after State Finals, are invited to compete in this exclusive rodeo event.  According to Steve Sutton, the 20X is  an opportunity to see some of the best young rodeo talent South Dakota has to offer, matched up against top stock, competing in a professional venue.

“The kid’s goals in high school rodeo has changed in that in addition to racking up enough points for qualifying for state, they have added another goal- to get in the top three pointer’s in each event so they can get to the 20X. So it’s served as a motivator.”  He adds,” My favorite part is seeing the sparkle in the kids’ eyes who all know they are competing in an arena where world champions have been.”

Also available to all high school rodeo athletes on Sunday, January 28, 2018 is the High School College Fair from 9:30 – 11:30am.  Held in the South Balcony of the Barnett Arena, it provides the opportunity to any high school rodeo athlete to visit with National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association coaches from South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, Oklahoma and Wyoming.

Glen Lammers the rodeo coach at Black Hills State University says it’s a popular place to find talent.  “This event is a win/win, he says. “As college rodeo coaches we have the opportunity to see the best high school rodeo athletes in the state.  And students get a chance to talk to a lot of different colleges and learn more about their rodeo and academic programs.”

Rodeo personnel will include announcer Will Rasmussen and PRCA 3X Clown of the Year, Justin Rumford  There will also be a special guest appearance by the Young Living Percheron Hitch.
