Blas N. Skvicalo was born in Lead, SD, to Blas and Helen Skvicalo on April 26, 1928.  After graduation from Lead High School in 1946, Blas continued his 52 year career in the dairy business with Brown Swiss Milk Co., eventually retiring from Gillette Dairy in 1994.  In these years, Blas married his wife, Lois Huddleston of Sturgis on November 23, 1953.  Not long after their marriage, Blas joined the United States Army and proudly served for three years alongside his brother, Peter.  Blas was a Quartermaster, serving in the Commissary at Fort Bliss, TX, for his three year tenure.

Blas enjoyed his retirement with Lois and their family on his ranch 10 miles south of Lead.  His time was best spent sharing stories with his children, grandchildren, and their families.  Blas enjoyed entertaining everyone with a wide variety of songs and his magnificent singing abilities.  Blas was a devout Catholic, attending mass regularly until his passing.

Blas N. Skvicalo, 89, died Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at his homestead.  He will be greatly missed by his surviving family and friends.

Blas is survived by his wife, Lois Skvicalo of Lead; his sons, John (Cathy) Skvicalo of Lead, George (Shelly) Skvicalo of Savage, MN, and Mark (Tami) Skvicalo of Lead; his daughter, Mary (John) McNeary of Minneapolis, MN; seven grandsons; four granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

Blas was preceded in death by his father, Blas; his mother, Helen; brother, Peter; sister, Nickie; and infant brother, Blas.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 8, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lead with a Rosary and Christian wake service for Blas beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018, with Father Leo Hausmann officiating.  Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery south of Lead on Rochford Road. 

A memorial has been established to the St. Patrick's Church.
