Bonnie M. Christy, age 88 of Belle Fourche, died Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Belle Fourche Healthcare Center.

The funeral service will be held 11am Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Belle Fourche.

Visitation will be held 5 to 7 pm Monday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Interment will be held 1pm Wednesday at the Carpenter Cemetery, in Carpenter, WY.

A memorial will be established.

Bonnie Mae Morse was born May 27, 1929 on the family homestead near Carpenter, Wyoming. She was the daughter of Charles and Nora (Breeden) Morse. Bonnie grew up on the homestead near Carpenter and in 1947 she graduated from high school. Bonnie was Salutatorian of her class and her future husband; Lauren Christy was Valedictorian. Bonnie and Lauren were married on September 17, 1950 in Carpenter. They were married by Lauren’s father who served as a Pastor in Carpenter. To this union two children were born: Sandi and Bryon. Following their marriage, Bonnie and Lauren lived in Burns, Wyoming. Later they moved to Cheyenne where Lauren worked for The Associates. In 1963 they moved to Gillette, and in 1968 they settled in Belle Fourche. The following year, Lauren died in a tragic automobile accident and Bonnie suddenly became a single mother.

Throughout her years of raising a family by herself, Bonnie devoted herself to her family. She worked at several places in Belle Fourche, including the Hard Times Café, the Butte County Extension Office, the public library as a “Green Thumb” worker. She did volunteer secretarial work at the First Baptist Church and was later the church custodian for several years. She spent years assisting her son with the Boy Scouts, and she worked hard to help her children succeed in life without their father.

Bonnie was a quiet, and shy person, but she carried an independent spirit. She was never intimidated, and never afraid of doing things. She loved the outdoors, traveling, and for many years swimming at the community center. She loved her family and grandchildren very much. She was a wonderful great grandmother, grandmother, and mother, and she will be missed greatly by all of her family and friends.

Bonnie’s last few years were spent at an assisted living center and the Belle Fourche Long Term Health Care Center, where she developed close relationships with the staff and other residents. Her family appreciates so much, the loving care that she received from her Belle Fourche Healthcare family. She loved bingo, and saved her winnings of candy for her grandchildren to find in her room.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Sandi (Oz) Hespe of Belle Fourche; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Karen Christy of Belle Fourche; brother, Donald Morse of Carpenter WY; and sister, Evelyn Austin of Kaysville UT.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lauren Christy; and son, Bryon Christy.
