Carl L. Anderson passed away January 7, 2018 at David M. Dorsett Healthcare in Spearfish, just 20 days before his 101st birthday.

Carl lived his entire life in Lawrence County, having been born in Lead in 1917. In 1926, he moved with his parents, Oscar and Hilda Anderson, to a small farm south of the Spearfish airport where Carl's brother, Melvin was born in 1927. They were there one year, moving to the Ward place north of Spearfish in 1927. The family then moved to the mouth of Higgins Gulch on the Pascoe place. In 1932, they moved to the Redwater Ranch where Carl spent the next 85 years. During his early grade school years Carl rode a horse to school, stopping by Tennessee Vaughn's home to hear stories of the early-day cattle drives. In the mid 1930's Carl's dad, Oscar, purchased 58 head of cattle from the Catron ranch for $498.

In 1953 Carl met his wife, Ann. They were married for 44 years until Ann passed away in 1997.

Carl lived with his cousin, Lee Carlson and wife, Sharon, for almost 2 years prior to a mini-stroke in July 2017. Prior to the mini-stroke Carl was able to drive his truck over to his own ranch, a half mile away, and plant corn from his tractor. Farming and ranching were his life and he enjoyed every minute of it.

Carl was a hard worker, honest and well respected by friends, family and neighbors. He loved to hunt and fish. The catfish population is expected to increase now. He had hundreds of stories from the past.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Hilda; his wife, Ann; and his brother, Melvin. He is survived by cousin, Lee Carlson and wife, Sharon; his sister-in-law, Ruth Anderson; nephew, Bernard Korteum and his wife, Jamie and their two sons; and a niece, Kay Anderson and her son and daughter.

Services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 15, 2018 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Spearfish with visitation starting at 10:00. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.
