Champions crowned as South Dakota High School Rodeo Finals wraps up

BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. - The Roundup grounds at Belle Fourche seen some hot action Saturday, as the South Dakota High School Rodeo Finals wrapped up.

The four winners in each category punch their ticket to the National High School Finals later this summer.

Emily Pauley, as senior from Wall, will head to the national finals after capturing the gold buckle in girls' cutting. It will be her fourth consecutive trip. Sawyer gilbert of Harding County won the breakaway roping title and will head to the finals.

Alex Bergson of Mitchell added some excitement to the steer wrestling -- capturing the final go and claiming the gold buckle from Seth Shorb of Hermosa.

Mikenzy Miller of Faith will get a trip to national's with a fourth place finish in the pole bending.

Trey Elshere will join Team South Dakota courtesy of a top four finish in the bronc riding.

Other champions include Jose Alaniz Jr. of Faith in the bareback, Wacey Brown of Sturgis in the barrel racing, Riggin Shippy of Colome in the bull riding, Jackson Grimes of Kadoka in the boys' cutting, Sidni Ferguson of Dupree in the pole bending, Natalie Leisinger of Highmore in the reined cow horse, Cash Wilson of Wall in the saddle bronc, Dillon Sacket of Alcester in the tie-down roping and Chance Derner of New Underwood and Thane Lockhart of Oelrichs in the team roping.
