Corinne "Connie" E. Stevens was born December 6, 1926, in Phillip, SD to Bernard and Leota Schimke. Her family moved to Custer where she grew up and graduated from Custer High School in 1944.

After high school she worked in Igloo, SD for the BH Ordinance Depot for a year. Corinne then moved to Sioux Falls, SD to attend Augustana College.  It was there that she met the love of her life, Raymond A. Stevens, and they were married August 29, 1948 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Custer.  In 1949 she graduated with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Music.  They moved to Lincoln, NE where she worked for the Dean of the Law School and at the Dept. of Agriculture while Ray got his master’s degree.

When they moved to Rapid City, Corinne worked at the SD State Employment Service and taught piano lessons. She was involved in the RC Kennel Club and raised, trained, and showed Boxers.  She was also in the Altar Guild and the PTA.

She enjoyed camping, rock hunting, traveling, reading, and music. She dearly loved living in the Black Hills and she treasured spending time with her family.

Corinne will be deeply missed by her children and their families. She is survived by her children,  Kent (Gina) Stevens, Seaford, VA; Terrie (Curtiss) Rich, Rapid City;   Craig (Donna) Stevens, Brookfield, VT, Ruth (Dennis) Petry, Rapid City; her grandchildren, Patrick (Kari) Rich, Kristin Rich, Elaine, Madison, Erik, and Grace Petry, Steven Brehm, Amica and Ashley Stevens; her great grandchildren, Spencer and Marcus Rich; and her sister, Janis Farrell.

2 Corinthians 5:1

“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”
