Donnie Lerew, 77, of Spearfish, passed away on May 6th, 2018. As in life, Donnie closely followed his beloved wife, Sachiko, to their eternal home.

Donnie Dean Lerew was born in Cresbard, SD on March 8, 1941 to Bernard & Virginia (Wegner) Lerew.

Donnie was born and raised in Cresbard, SD. Following high school, he served in the Air Force as a mechanic, until his release in the fall of 1965.

Donnie married Sachiko Nagahiro at the US Consulate in Fukuoka, Japan on April 30th, 1965. The couple settled in Cresbard, SD where they owned the grocery store. In 1982, they moved to Spearfish, SD where Donnie started trucking until he retired in 2007.

Donnie was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was especially devoted to his grandchildren and enjoyed attending all of their events. Donnie also loved fishing with his friends and visiting with everyone who stopped by to have alterations done by his wife Sachiko.

He is survived by his two sons: Deon & Jessica Lerew and their children Daniel, Alyssa, Nelson & Preston of Dickinson, ND, Donovan & Cherise Lerew and their children Chloe & Drayton of Spearfish, SD, and sisters Dorothy (John Rhine) of Cuba, Kansas, Beverly (Jerry Van Well) of Henry, SD.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sachiko Lerew, brother, Melvin Lerew, sister-in-law, Donna Lerew, and parents, Bernard and Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are being collected for Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Spearfish, SD.

Memorial services will be held at 9:00am, Friday, May 11, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spearfish with burial with military honors to follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
