Fire destroys pickup truck hauling horses traveling on I-90 Tuesday

STURGIS, S.D. – A pickup truck pulling a horse trailer was destroyed by fire Tuesday.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the driver of the pickup was traveling westbound on I-90 east of Sturgis when he lost control of the vehicle.

The driver was able to safely navigate the truck to the side of the road as it caught fire.

Passerby’s assisted with removing the horses from the trailer and then removing the trailer from the burning pickup truck.

The 2007 Ford F-350 pickup was a total loss, but the highway patrol says thanks to good samaritans, the trailer and horses survived. No injuries were reported.

Sturgis Fire crews responded to put out the fire and assistance from the Sturgis Police Department of Meade County Sheriff’s office was provided.
