Joan Jeannette Brunick, 80, Rapid City, died Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Rapid City Regional Hospice House.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.  A time of fellowship will be at the Sturgis Community Center following the service.

Joan Brunick was born August 20, 1937, to John and Florence (Davis) McElhaney in Edgemont, SD.  She was raised on the family ranch north of Edgemont.  She attended and graduated from Edgemont High School in 1955.

On January 15, 1956, she married Harold “Dick” Remington Sr. in Edgemont and from this marriage, five children were born.  They moved into the Rapid City area and eventually made their home in Piedmont in 1975.  Joan later moved to Black Hawk in 1992 and married Bud Brunick in 1995.  Joan started her career in 1978 as a bookkeeper at the Windmill Truck Stop in Rapid City.  She worked there until her retirement in 2003.

Joan enjoyed spending her days of summer working in her yard planting trees, shrubs, and flowers.  She loved sitting outside and watching the wildlife wander through her beautiful yard.  Most of all, Joan loved her family.  Her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They brought a smile to her face that lit up the room around her.  Joan’s favorite times of the year were the holidays when everyone could be together.

Survivors include her five children, Tim (Bobbi) Remington of Edgemont and their children, Dusty, Scott, Casey, Jerry, and Cindy, Dick (Jodie) Remington of Piedmont and their children, Charity, Sarah, and Cynthia, Judy Duprel of Sturgis and her children, Ryan, Dan, and David, Julie (Mike) Peterson of Piedmont and their children, Beth and Jared, and Todd (Michele) Remington of Black Hawk and their children, Tasha, Steven, and Beau; 12 great-grandchildren, Damon, Braelyn, Mason, Ayden, Gage, Auroa, Jace, Charlii, Jake, Riley, Logan, and Jaylen; and one brother, Leonard McElhaney of Edgemont.
