Madison, Tripp-Delmont Armour win Spirit of Six Awards

UNDATED - The annual Spirit of Six awards were handed out Saturday night at the Girls Class A and B Basketball Tournaments.

The annual Spirit of Six award is given out every year to a cheerleading squad considered best on crowd control, sportsmanship and enthusiasm and dress.

It is named in honor of the six Rapid City Central cheerleaders who died in a plane crash in 1968.

This year's Class A winner were the Madison Cheerleading squad.

Tripp Delmont/Armour were awarded the Spirit of Six at the Class B Tournament.

Another annual award given out during the State Tournament is the Spirit of Su award.

Each year the "Spirit of Su' Award will be given to an outstanding senior player who exemplifies the life of SuAnne Big Crow, Pine Ridge. SuAnne was killed in a car accident on her way to the Miss. Basketball Banquet in 1992. The player will be judged in the categories of outstanding athletic ability, leadership, character.

This year's Class B Winner was Regan Benike of Castlewood. It was a fitting night for Benike, who finished the night with 17 points in a state championship win over Hanson.

Winning the award in Class A was Grace Imbrey of Aberdeen Roncalli.
