Making History; St Thomas More wins fifth straight championship

Gary Matthews & SDPB Staff - March 11, 2018

WATERTOWN, S.D. - For the fifth straight year, the St Thomas More girls are champions.

The Lady Cavaliers defeated Madison 54-41 to win the Class A Girls State Championship Saturday night.

It is the fifth straight championship for St Thomas More -- tying Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Armour -- who also have five straight championships.

Aislinn Duffy led St Thomas More with 26 points and 6 rebounds. Jessi Giles led Madison with 15 points.

The Bulldogs didn't make it easy for St Thomas More. After falling behind 16-11 after the first quarter, Madison held the Cavaliers to just 7 in the second quarter. However, Duffy was just too much to handle for Madison, as the Cavaliers used defense and good shooting to pull away in the fourth.
