SPEARFISH, S.D. – Fraser Malcolm hit double digits for the seventh time this season, as the Black Hills State University men's basketball team defeated Chadron State College, 76-63, on Saturday evening.

Malcolm scored 21 points to lead the Yellow Jackets (6-4, 3-3 RMAC), while Makaleb McInnis had 14 points, and Patrick Mendes added 13.

The Eagles (3-9, 1-5 RMAC) jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game, and led by as many as four several times, until McInnis made a fast break layup with 5:32 remaining in the first half to give BHSU a 23-21 lead, a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. The Green and Gold led by as many as nine in the first half, and held a seven point lead, 38-31, at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets pushed the lead out to as many as 17 in the second half, peaking at 53-36 with 12:33 left, after Malcom hit a jumper. Chadron State chipped away to get with nine several times in the last 10 minutes, but BHSU was able to hold the Eagles at arm's length, killing off the game, and earning the conference victory.

BHSU shot 43.8 percent from the field (28-for-52), while CSC was 40.7 percent from the floor (24-for-59). The Yellow Jackets were 5-for-15 (33.3 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Eagles were 4-for-13 (30.8 percent) on three-pointers. BHSU was 15-for-20 (75.0 percent) from the free throw line, and Chadron State was 11-for-17 (64.7 percent) from the charity stripe. The Green and Gold edged the Eagles in rebounding, 32-31.

Jeremy Ruffin led the Eagles in scoring with 13 points, while Eric Jamerman added 10.

Meanwhile, The Black Hills State University women's basketball team defeated the Chadron State College Eagles on Saturday night, 65-46. Remi Wientjes led the way, scoring a career-high 14 points.

The Yellow Jackets improve to 10-2 overall and 4-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action, while Chadron State falls to 3-8 overall and 1-5 in RMAC play.

The Green and Gold set the pace of the game, as they controlled the tip and grabbed a 5-0 lead to start the opening quarter. At 4:46, Abby Switzer started the second run of the quarter, as the Yellow Jackets went 8-0 in less than a two-minute span to lead, 17-5, before Savannah Weidaur hit a jumper to end the BHSU run.

In the second quarter, the Yellow Jackets got on a hot streak, going on an 11-0 run to increase their lead over the Eagles, 32-16. Katie Messler started the run, hitting a jumper from the corner of the key, followed by a layup by Remi Wientjes to give BHSU a 25-13 lead. Gabby Doxtator scored one-of-two from the line, before Alyssia Martinez and Cortez Standing Bear hit the last six points of the run, scoring back-to-back three pointers to give the Yellow Jackets a 32-13 lead.
