Maxine was born February 21, 1932, to Clarence and Dorothy Henderson in Lead, S.D.  She graduated from Lead High School in 1949.  She married Earle “Ike” Kermu on January 25, 1953.  They had three children, Karen, Kathy & Kenneth. 

 Her career included working in a grocery store, a jewelry store, and a bakery. She worked at the Lead Public Schools as a custodian for thirty years, retiring in February of 1994.  Her favorite hobbies included bowling, reading, word puzzles, pinochle, watching the Green Bay Packers and westerns, and fishing most weekends with the family. She also was a wonderful seamstress.

Maxine was a lifelong and faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church.  She will be remembered for her faith, hard work, and kindness to all.  Her sense of humor and quick wit will be missed by many.

Maxine (Henderson) Kermu died November 8, 2017, following a short illness.

She is survived by her children, Karen Anderson, Gering, NE;, Kathy (Tim) Gebhart, Sioux Falls, SD; Ken (Barb Shivers) Kermu, Lead, SD; and a special niece, Jenette (Larry) Styles , Rapid City, SD;  three brothers, Robert (Mary Samson), Spearfish, SD; Keith (Kandis), Carroll, IA; and Steve (Gail), Papillion, NE; eight grandchildren, Karry (Brad Nehlich) Iverson, Groton, SD; Amy (Michelle) Anderson-Saenz, Gering, NE; Denise (Noah) Kay, Lincoln, NE; Larry (Stephanie) Anderson Jr., Lincoln, NE;  Elizabeth (William Morgan) Gebhart, Lincoln, NE;  Andrea (Timothy Ohnoutka) Gebhart, Lincoln, NE;, Tracy (Kewei Zhang) Gebhart, Durham, N.C., and Isaac (Crysti)  Kermu, Deadwood, S.D.; and ten great grandchildren:  Ashley, Kelsey, Tyler, and Lee Iverson, Groton, S.D., Evelyn, Julie, Dante, and Alyson Anderson–Saenz, Gering, Neb., and Myles and Quinn Kay, Lincoln, Neb. , and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Dorothy Henderson; two infant brothers, her husband, grandson-in-law John Iverson and great grandson Cole Iverson.

The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Ridge Senior Living Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital & Medical Clinic who cared for her these past few years.

Memorial services will be Friday, November 17, 2017, at 3 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, Lead, S.D., with Rev. Michael Johnson officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Maxine’s honor be made to Christ Episcopal Church. A private burial will be held at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery.
