Hermos Fatal House Fire
One person dead after fire in Hermosa
Gary Matthews - December 6, 2017

HERMOSA, S.D. – Authorities say one person was killed in a house fire that occurred this morning in Hermosa.

According to the Pennington County Fire Administrator Jerome Harvey, the Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a structure fire report at 212 Vilas Street in Hermosa at approximately 10:22 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Upon arrival, fire crews noticed heavy smoke coming from the structure.

Due to unfavorable weather and road conditions, a second alarm was called for manpower. When crews arrived, they were notified that it was unclear that all occupants had made it out of the home safely. At 11:15 a.m., crews discovered a deceased victim inside.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending investigation. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.

Several agencies responded ranging from Pennington county, Hermosa Town Marshall, Custer County Sheriff, Keystone Ambulance, Custer County Emergency Management, as well as the South Dakota state Fire Marshall. The damage was confined to the structure of origin.

No personnel on the scene were injured.  Cause if the fire is still under investigation and will be made available when the investigation is complete.
