Fire heavily damages a Rapid Valley structure Sunday.
Pennington County fire crews respond to two structure fires Sunday

RAPID CITY, S.D. - It was a busy weekend for Pennington County fire crews, as they battled two more structure fires on Sunday.

The first fire was reported just after noon Sunday.

A fire in a residential structure at 4769 Anderson rd. in Rapid Valley, unincorporated Pennington County went to 2 alarms before being brought under control.

The structure occupied by six (6) civilians, received extensive damage, with a loss of clothing, personal items, and other house hold goods.

The wind driven fire did threaten adjacent homes, however firefighters were able to confine the fire to the structure of origin, stopping the spread of the flames to nearby structures, infrastructure and other improvements.

Wind chill temperatures recorded at the Incident ranged from minus -5 minus -15 degrees Fahrenheit.

No injuries to Firefighters or Civilians were reported.

American Red Cross Serving Western and Central South Dakota are assisting the residents.

The cause is under investigation.

Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department Black Hawk Volunteer Fire Department, Pennington County 911, , North Haines Volunteer Fire Department, Rockerville Volunteer Fire Department, Rapid Valley Water District, Rapid City Fire Department, Battle Creek Fire Department, New Underwood Volunteer Fire Department, Doty Volunteer Fire Department, Custer Volunteer Fire Department, Whispering Pines Volunteer Fire Department, Box Elder Volunteer Fire Department, Wall Volunteer Fire Department,  Johnson Siding Volunteer Fire Department, United States Air force 28th Bomb Wing/Ellsworth Air Force Base Fire Department, Black Hills Energy, Montana Dakota Utilities, American Red Cross Serving Western and Central South Dakota, the South Dakota Fire Marshalls Office, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and the Pennington County Fire Service.

The second fire was reported at 4:21 p.m.

A fire in a residential garage at 23822 Golden Hills Drive, Rockerville, Un-incorporated Pennington County, resulted in an injury to a civilian.

The structure, received extensive damage, with a loss of shop tools, Tractor, a vehicles, including vehicles immediately adjacent to the exterior of the garage and other related assets.

However firefighters were able to confine the fire to the structure of origin, stopping the spread of the flames to nearby structures, infrastructure and other improvements.

Wind chill temperatures recorded at the Incident ranged from minus -5 minus -15 degrees Fahrenheit.

No injuries to Firefighters were reported and the civilian injured, received treatment at the scene and was released.

The cause is under investigation.
