Severe weather rumbles across western South Dakota Sunday
Gary Matthews - June 11, 2018

STURGIS, S.D. - Large hail, heavy rain and even some funnel clouds were reported in severe thunderstorms that rumbled across western South Dakota Sunday.

The National Weather Service in Rapid City says some of the largest hail was reported near Reva.

Baseball sized hail fell 17 miles south by southwest of Reva in Harding County. That hail busted up windshields in the area. Two inch hail was reported to the east of Reva.

Several reports of a funnel cloud from weathe spotters were reported south of Prairie City in Perkins County. That prompted a tornado warning from the weather service.

Heavy rain brought flooding to southwestern Ziebach County. A small stream flood advisory was in effect until 10:15 Monday morning for the Red Scaffold and Cherry Creek area.

In the Black Hills area, a severe thunderstorm brought two-inch hail just to the north of Rapid City.

One inch hail was reported east of Brownsville in Lawrence County.

The predicted severe weather brought in the storm chasers. The group stopped in Sturgis early Sunday afternoon for lunch at Dairy Queen before they headed northward.
