State Champions Crowned on Saturday night

UNDATED - The South Dakota High School Basketball season came to a close Saturday night as champions were crowed in girls and boys Class AA, boys Class A and boys Class B.

At the Boys Class AA Championship, Yankton won their first title since 1978 with a thrilling 39-37 win over Harrisburg.

Yankton's Matthew Mors led the way with 18 points and 9 rebounds.

Cooper Bowman of Rapid City Stevens was awarded the Spirit of Su Award and the Douglas Cheerleaders won the Spirit of Six.

At the girls tournament, it was all Aberdeen Central, as they defeated Harrisburg 49-32.

Cassidy Gough led the Golden Eagles with 17 points and Paiton Burckhard was awarded the Spirit of Su. The Aberdeen Central cheerleaders were awarded the Spirit of Six.

Earlier, Sioux Falls Lincoln defeated Brandon Valley 50-45 for third place.

At the Boys Class A Tournament, Madison outscored Tea 26-17 to pull away for a 72-59 win. Jadon Janke led the Bulldogs with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Sioux Falls Christian defeated Sioux Valley for third place and Red Cloud defeated Dakota Valley for fifth. Crow Creek beat PSulline Ridge for seventh place.

And, at the Class B Tournament, Sully Buttes edged Clark/Willow Lake for the championship. Nick Wittier had 18 points to lead Sully Buttes to a 58-55 win. Jacob Howard grabbed 16 rebounds for the Chargers.

Bridgewater-Emery defeated White River 87-79 earlier for third place. Timber Lake captured fifth place with a 64-52 win over Canistota.
