Terry John Setera, age 74, Sturgis, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones on Saturday, September 30, 2017.

Terry was born November 27, 1942, in Billings, MT, to John and Alma (Mueller) Setera.  He attended grade school and graduated high school in Billings, then continued on to receive a degree from North Dakota State University School of Pharmacy.  After graduation, Terry moved to Belle Fourche, SD, where he went to work for his mentor, Cliff Thomas.  It was in Belle Fourche where Terry unintentionally walked into the wrong drug store and ran into a young woman named Linda Jean.

On June 17, 1967, Terry married Linda Jean Shindoll; together they have three children; son, Craig, and daughters, Traci and Tammi.  To celebrate their 50 years of marriage this summer, Terry and Jeanne brought their entire family together at a beautiful resort in the north woods of Minnesota to share in the milestone.  Terry's first love was always family.

In 1967, Terry completed an advanced medical training program to become a medical corpsman and was then attached to the 109th Engineer Battalion of the South Dakota National Guard.  Terry and Jeanne then started their business life, partnering with Stroscheins at Sturgis Drug in downtown Sturgis.  The business changed to County Drug, where they operated until they sold the business in 2008.

Terry blessed others with his many quality traits.  Along with his infectious personality and a brilliant sense of humor, he had an unmatched compassion for helping people, professionally and personally.  Terry loved his work for the connection it provided with the local community.  Through these connections, he built strong bonds that lasted his lifetime.  Friends of Terry knew the coffee pot at the drug store or home was hot and always full.  His quick smile and ability to make everyone feel welcome will be sorely missed.

During his free time, Terry was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending his time hunting and fishing.  He acted as a mentor to youth hunters and would often have the opportunity to take kids on their first ever pheasant hunt, which he truly enjoyed.

Terry is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne; son, Craig (Pam) Setera and their daughter, Maggie; daughter, Tracie Phelps (Kendall Kliewer), her daughter, Emily, and sons, Tanner and Tyler; daughter, Tammi (Brian) Schwab, and their daughter, Maddie, and son, Jack; his sister, Lana (Mike) Cruse; sister-in-law, Susan (Ron) Setera; and his nieces, nephews, the rest of his family, and of course his far-reaching group of close friends.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alma Setera; brothers, David and Ron; and sister, Sharon.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Father Timothy Castor officiating.  Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.

A memorial has been established.
