Walking with the Wounded group visits Mount Rushmore

Veterans from the U.S. and U.K. walk at Mount Rushmore

News Staff - July 10, 2018

MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL, S.D. - "Walking with the Wounded," six veterans from the United States and United Kingdom Armed Forces, made their stop at Mount Rushmore Monday.

The group's 1,000 mile Walk of America shows the unique bond that the U.S. and the U.K. share as long time allies.

This year's walk started last month in Southern California. The goal is to travel across the country, with stops at various points of interest to raise awareness of mental illness.

The veterans have been suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and are sharing their stories along the way.

So far, the group has covered just under 400 miles.

After their visit to Mount Rushmore, the group travels to the Bighorn National Forest in Wyoming today and then Yellowstone National Park on Wednesday.

Eventually, the group will wrap up this year's event at New York City.
