BOX ELDER, S.D. - Area athletes competed at the annual Early Bird Track and Field Meet at Douglas High School Saturday.
Sturgis field several event winners, including one double-winner.
Holly Gerberding won the 100 and 300-meter hurdles.
Sturgis event winners included Cain Fritz in the 200-meters, Justice West in the 300-meter hurdles, Loralee Stock in the 100-meters, Kylee Bennett in the 800-meters, Lia Neumiller in the 3,200-meters, Ashlynn Simmons in the high jump and Caitlyn Emick in the triple jump.
Other events winners on the girls side included Shayla Howell of Belle Fourche in the 200-meters, Delaney Leber of Newell in the 400-meters, Karlee Simmons of Hill City in the 1,600-meters, Naomi Winn of Douglas in the shot put, Breeze Stock of Douglas in the discus, Caroly Groeger of Lead-Deadwood in the pole vault and Cerington Jones of New Underwood in the long jump.
Other event winners on the boys side include Trevor Severson of Doublas in the 100-meter dash, Tavian Ashurst of Spearfish in the 400-meter dash, Daniel Burkhalter of Bison in the 800-meters, Caleb Oiler of Hill City in the 1,600-meters, Iren Grassrope of Lower Brule in the 3,200-meters, Kevin Jenkins of Douglas in the 110-meter hurdles, Matt Swenson of Custer in the shot put, Reed Ashmore of Custer in the discus and Branson Taylor of Douglas in the pole vault.
