Holida Inn's in South Dakota-Wyoming hit by hackers

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Criminals hacked into more than 1,174 International Hotels Group properties, including several in South Dakota and Wyoming.

According to a release on the IHG website , malware designed to access payment card data from cards used onsite at front desks was operating from Sept. 29 to Dec. 29, 2016. The malware searched for data such as the cardholder’s name, card number, expiration date and internal verification codes.

IHG states that there is no evidence this access continued after Dec. 29, it wasn’t confirmed that the malware was removed until March 2017.

• Keystone – Sept. 29 to Dec. 29, 2016
• Hill City, Sept. 29 to Oct. 19, 2016
• Brookings – Sept. 29 to Nov. 17, 2016
• Fort Pierre – Sept. 29 to Dec. 29, 2016
• Vermillion – Sept. 29 to Dec. 9, 2016
• Yankton – Sept. 29 to Nov. 16, 2016

 

In Wyoming:
• Buffalo Holiday Inn Express – Sept. 29 to Dec. 29, 2016
• Gillette Candlewood Suites – Sept. 29, 2016 to Oct. 6, 2016
• Sheridan Candlewood Suites– Sept. 29 to Dec. 12, 2016
• Cody Holiday Inn – Sept. 29 to Dec. 14, 2016

IHG is continuing to investigate the breech so the list of hotels could grow.

People need to check their credit cards for any unauthorized payments and if found, contact your card company.
