Yellow Jackets Sweep Will Lantis Stampede
BHSU Athletics - April 24, 2017

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University rodeo team swept the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede team titles this weekend with Carson Johnston and Samantha Jorgenson winning the men's and women's All-Around honors.

Jorgenson dominated the breakaway roping, with a 5.3 on two runs while teammates Madison Huber and Kallie Carey finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Katie Lensegrav tied for first in barrel racing with a time of 27.51 in two rounds. Makeesha Geiger and Joeni Lueders placed third and fourth with times of 27.62 and 27.64, respectively.

Carlee Johnston earned the goat tying title with a time of 13.2 on two runs. Alyssa Lockhart and Keanna Ward finished third and fourth with times 14.4 and 14.6 on two runs.

On the men's side, Johnston placed second in steer wrestling with a time of 12.5 seconds on two rounds. Lane Rossow placed third in tie down with a time of 22.0 on two runs while Johnston finished fifth with a 25.2 on two runs.

In the team roping, Jake Herman and Colton Backhaus were crowned the champions with a time of 18.3 on two while Ava Rankin and Trey Huber finished second with a 19.6 on two. Jorgenson and Carlee Johnston placed fifth and sixth with times of 8.6 and 8.8 on one.

"It doesn't get better than this with winning the event as a team and the All-Around on both sides while hosting. I was pleased with our overall performances. The students did a great job balancing between hosting the rodeo and preparing to compete," said head coach Glen Lammers.

Following the weekend, the Yellow Jackets travel to Hastings, Nebraska, for the Bobby Gottsch Jr. Memorial Rodeo on April 28 and 29.
