Rush Ink 10-year Deal

Rush Ink 10-year Deal
Rapid City Rush ink deal to remain in Rapid City another 10 years
Sports Staff - April 28, 2017

RAPID CITY, S.D. - The Rapid City Rush announced Thursday they have agreed to a new 10-year lease with the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center -- effectively keeping them in Rapid City for another decade.

"I'm sure some were concerned that the team was going to leave,” said Rush assistant coach Daniel Tetrault. “You know, you always hear rumors. It's a small town. But now it's case closed."

With the team’s four owners and the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center committing to the rush for another 10 years, the focus now turns to the product on the ice which hasn't won much in the past two seasons.

"We're going to get this to where, number one it's the place to be every Friday and Saturday night,” said Rush general manager Joe Ferras. Everybody is going to leave this rink very proud of this hockey club next season."

Attendance has suffered recently. The ECHL has 27 teams, and the Civic Center's executive director Craig Baltzer has done research on the crowds they get.

"You know what, if you look at their attendances compared to other teams in the ECHL, especially the smaller cities like we are, we're holding up very well," said Baltzer.

"We got a great fan–base here,” said Rush defenseman Nick Walters. “It's awesome to see that we have an ownership group and management that see that it's a great place to play hockey, which it is.
