U.S.D.'s Caitlin Duffy gets sixth year of eligibility
Gary Ellenbolt, S.D.P.B. Sports - May 13, 2017

VERMILLIONS, S.D. - One of the premier high school basketball players in South Dakota is being allowed to continue her college career.  Rapid City’s Caitlin Duffy will receive a sixth year of eligibility to play at the University of South Dakota.

University of South Dakota women's basketball player Caitlin Duffy. The Rapid City native and former St. Thomas More Cavalier will be allowed a sixth year of eligibility after sitting out last season with a foot injury.

Duffy played at St. Thomas More High School in Rapid City.  She was a standout on several Cavalier teams that qualified for the State Girls Tournament.  She was one of the leading players on the U-S-D Coyotes team that earned the Women’s National Invitation Tournament title in 20-16.  After that season, she suffered a foot injury that kept her out of her senior season.  .  But the N-C-Double-A has granted Caitlin Duffy a sixth year of eligibility, due to her injury.  She will play for the Coyotes in the 20-17/20-18 season.

The decision gives Caitlin Duffy to play on the same team as her sister, Cierra, who was a freshman for the Coyotes last year.  Another player from the national championship team who sat out last year with an injury, Australia native Jasmine Trimboli, also received a medical waiver to play for U-S-D next season.  A South Dakota State player, Macy Miller, was injured early last season and missed the rest of the team’s games.  She has been given an additional year’s eligibility as well.
