Mary Anne Herring
Mary Anne Herring
- May 24, 2017

Mary was born October 21, 1930, in Milbank, SD, to Frank and Anna (Croymans) Chaloupka.  She was raised on the family farm with her two brothers and two sisters.  Mary graduated from Milbank High School and became a "Six Week Wonder."  The state of South Dakota was desperate for teachers and thus trained her for six weeks to become a teacher.  She taught at the country school she had attended.  Mary returned to college for a two year teaching degree and taught in Bowdle.  There she met her first husband, Cletus "Fizzer" Huber.  They married on June 2, 1954, and started their family of five children; Colgan, Colette, Kieran, Creden and Kenan.  Mary later went back to college and obtained her degree in Elementary Education.  She taught for more than two decades at Newell Elementary.  Fizzer passed away on April 30, 1985.

On July 27, 1990, Mary married Eldon Herring.  She then had three step-children to love; Joe Shari, and Della.  Eldon and Mary were married 26 and one-half years.  They traveled to see kids and grandkids, as well as many historical places.  They wintered in Arizona for several years.

Mary was an avid reader and book collector.  She collected antiques as well as lots of other things.  She enjoyed history and she and Eldon went on many historical tours.  Her favorite pastime was clipping pictures, articles, and lots of 'stuff' from magazines and newspapers.

Mary loved children and being able to interact with them.  She was a proud, loving, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Her special joy was her only great-granddaughter, Ellie Anne Wheeler.  Ellie adored her Great Grammy Mary.
