Jeff was born on August 6, 1969, in Springfield, Illinois to James and Karen Shepard. On September 2, 2000 he married me, Debra Lynne O’Connor, whom he met in August of 1998 on the Coastal Star in Seattle where we headed to Alaska. We would find out on our first anniversary that we were blessed with huge surprise in the form of our sun, moon and stars. April 26, 2002 Kathryne (Katee) Janece Shepard joined us. She became his world as he became her daddy.

After Katee was born we decided that he could no longer be gone as long as the fishing industry required and so he took a job as an AB Unlimited for Weeks Marine. It was here that he finally decided to evolve and become an engineer (I was the engineer first so always the chief of the family, he was my favorite deck ape or knuckle dragger as I used to call him lol). He would work his way to chief engineer and his two favorite companies were Weeks Marine Inc. and Crosby Tug Company. He spent over half of our marriage on these tugs. He hated to fly and being away but he knew that this was the best way to provide for his family, plus stay on the seas that he loved.

His hobbies were guns, archery, fishing, anything mechanical, gardening, hiking, anything nautical, exercising and video games, he shares these loves with his baby girl and one of these is often what you saw them doing together.

Jeffery Neal Shepard “crossed the bar” on April 26, 2017, at the Rapid City Regional Airport.

Jeff physically leaves behind a wife, Debra Shepard, a daughter, Katee Shepard. He is also survived by his mother, Karen Shepard; father, James Shepard (Lynn); brother, Kelly Shepard; sisters, Crystal (Chris) Emery and Brittney Shepard as well as many nieces, nephews and brother and sister in laws, aunts, uncles and cousins. Jeff was loved so much and will be missed greatly.

A private viewing was held for family and a celebration of life was held on May 3, 2017 at his property that he loved so much outside of Sturgis. Another celebration of life will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the Springfield Motor Boat Club, 17 Club Area, Springfield, IL. There will be a visitation from 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. the memorial will be out by the lake at 12:30 p.m. and his mother would like to invite family and friends to lunch at 1:00 p.m. at the club. Please R.S.V.P. to an immediate family member if you plan the lunch by Monday, May 29, so we can let the club know how many will attend. We will also have an informal visitation following the lunch throughout part of the afternoon.

Katee and Debra will also be doing a “Tour of Ashes” throughout this next year to take Katee to all of the places that her daddy loved so much to “drop an anchor.” Jeff loved being a wanderer and so many places in the world left an impression on him, as well as his family.

We love and miss you so much babydoll..I will stand watch here while you stand watch from there. Love you always and your babies forever!!
