New Whitewood Coffee Shop
New coffee shop opens in Whitewood
Gary Matthews - June 7, 2017

WHITEWOOD, S.D. - A new coffee shop is serving up some good things in Whitewood.

Mill Iron Coffee is located across the highway from Howdy's.

Owner Marla Loken says they serve up all your favorite coffee -- hot or cold. They also serve Latte's and Frappe's.

They also serve up some of the best Pasties around. Pasties are a food with a rich historic past. (Think "past" to pronounce them correctly). The crust on a pastie allowed miners in the 1800's, who of course didn't have the convenience of hand washing facilities, to hold their lunch with dirty hands. After enjoying a satisfying meal, they could then throw the crimped edge of the crust away. The delicious pasties are made in Lead.

Also for sale is the Loken's homemade honey. The family gets their honey from their hives located on their ranch.

The new establishment features a cozy place to meet friends for great coffee and a pastie.

They also have a room where you can book meetings or hold small gatherings.

Mill Iron coffee opens bright and early in the morning at 5:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
