William “Bill” John Schwender III, 60 of Belle Fourche, died Friday, June 2, at home surrounded by family.

He was born September 25, 1956, in Philadelphia, PA to William John Schwender Jr. and Anna Elizabeth (Miller). He attended Lake Worth Community High in Lake Worth, FL. Deciding he was "too cool for school" he intended to become a professional surfer but immediately began his career as an auto body technician under the tutelage of his uncle, Ron Miller. While he mainly painted cars and pickups, he was known to paint a variety of other things including tractors, a pink toilet, a complete motor home, and a 1948 Stinson plane.

On July 1, 1984 he married Joette Y. Seay in West Palm Beach, FL. They resided in Lake Worth, West Palm Beach, and Okeechobee FL until 1992 when they moved with their children to Belle Fourche where William worked at Belle Auto Body until the business closed. He ended his career working at his dream job at Bunney's Body and Collision Repair Center.

Bill was a Cub Scout Leader in the mid 90's, served as a judge for the Center of the Nation All Car Rally for several years, and was the Vice Chairman of the 26th Annual Center of the Nation All Car Rally. Most recently he was a member of the Connection Church Belle Fourche where he attended services and enjoyed church functions and gatherings.

His hobbies included fishing, camping, grilling, riding motorcycles and his scooter. He enjoyed surfing and skateboarding in his youth.

He is survived by his wife, Joette "Jodi" Schwender; son, Shane (Akela) Schwender; daughter, Amethyst Schwender; son, Jaasiel "JL" Schwender and fiancé Shaina Gilchrist; son, Joseph Schwender; daughter, Sharayah (Greg) Brickey all of Belle Fourche; 5 grandchildren, Dayan Schwender, Becca Schwender, Savana Schwender, Emma "Pnut" Brickey and Lakinn Schwender; honorary sons, Dakota Schnell, Steven Ritch, Nick Batterman, Jim Tagart, Les Thomas; honorary daughters, Marcella Hutton, Molly O'Connell, Maxine Rodriguez; sister, Annie Webb.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Schwender and his sister, Karen Snyder.

A Ceremonial Tribute will be held 5:00 PM, Sunday, June 18, at the Connection Church Belle Fourche with Pastor Stephen Carson officiating.
