Larry Jensen, 77, of Spearfish, SD, passed away July 3, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Larry was born March 21, 1940 in Hendricks, MN to Laurence O. Jensen and Doris (Hallas) Jensen. He graduated from Salem High School and went on to graduate with a Mortuary Science Degree from the University of Minnesota. With his degree he worked at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron until his father passed away; he then went home to Salem to the family hardware business.

He married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Sabers, on June 24, 1961. From this union he was blessed with Brad (Marcy) of Mobridge, Kristi (Roger) Heumiller of Spearfish, and Todd (Lisa) of Spearfish. Larry was the proud grandfather of eight granddaughters; Jennifer Newcomb, Paige Jensen, Stephanie Burnett, Lexi Heumiller, Cassi Heumiller, Haley Jensen and Rachel Jensen, and one grandson Mitchel Heumiller, along with two great-granddaughters Brooklyn and Alley Newcomb.

Larry was a jack of all trades. While in Salem he was in the hardware and furniture business, digging and excavating, propane gas, and owned the Salem School busses. In 1987, he and his family moved to Mobridge, SD where he pursued his favorite endeavor of the auto industry when he started Larry Jensen Motors. In 1991, he expanded his business to include Spearfish Motors which allowed him to live in the beautiful Black Hills. In 2002, he retired and spent his winters in Sun Lakes, AZ but always came home for the summers where he looked forward to spending time with family and friends.

The activities Larry most enjoyed were golfing, double solitaire, traveling, camping, Harley Davidson motorcycle trips, and snowmobiling.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and one granddaughter, Lacey Jensen.

Memorial Services will be Monday, July 10, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish. A public visitation will be held Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 3-5 PM with the family being present. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Spearfish Lion’s Club.
