Shirley Ann Povandra, 69 of Spearfish died Saturday , July 8, 2017 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Shirley Ann Davis was born in Baker, MT on November 5, 1947 to Gerald and Betty (Dye) Davis. She spent her early years on the farm near Bowman, ND and later moved with her parents to Spearfish, SD. She married William C. Povandra on June 6, 1965 and would have a son, Brian, in October of 1982. She worked at Homestake Mining Company, Lumber and Timber Department and Homestake Forest Products until the mill burned down. She then went to work in the lunch room for the Spearfish School District. She would eventually take a job as elementary school secretary where she would touch the lives of many kids. She would retire from the school system in 2010 to spend time with family.

Shirley was an active member with the Spearfish Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, local 4-H Club, Spearfish Police Reserves, Spearfish Ambulance, Foster Parent Association, Black Hills Model "T" Club, and the National Association of Educational Office Professionals. She gave her whole heart to these organizations and gained many friends throughout the years. An excellent canner and baker, Shirley's joy was sharing the fruits of her labor with those that she loved.

Shirley is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Ashley Povandra, Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Braiden and Madyson, Rapid City, SD; sister, Darlene Telkamp, Spearfish, SD; nephews, Christopher and wife Marni, and their son Brock, Centennial, CO, Scott Telkamp and family, Gillette, WY, Lee Telkamp and family, Billings, MT; niece, Betty McKellar and family, Hillsdale, NJ; sister and brother-in-law Geraldine and Rex Keller, Sioux Falls, SD; nephew, Brent Keller, Columbia, SC; niece, Kimberly Keller, Sioux Falls, SD. Her wonderful generous heart resulted in a large "Adopted" family, Travis Heeringa, Robert Kennedy, Richard and Shelly Broderick, Bailey Broderick, Blake Broderick, Jared Farley, Jason Sumners and many other lives she has touched throughout the years. She is preceded in death by her husband William C. Povandra; parents, Gerald and Betty Davis; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Mable Povandra; and brother-in-law, Ray Telkamp.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 12 at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish. A memorial has been established to the Spearfish Foundation for Public Education.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
