Gloria Jean (Ruby) Kersey peacefully passed away at her home in Whitewood, SD, surrounded by her loving family on July 11th, 2017 at the age of 70. She fought a courageous 2½ year battle with lung cancer.

Gloria was preceded in death by the loss of her closest friend and mother, Elaine, her father Douglas, and her stepfather Fred Seybold. She also lost a close sibling, her brother Stuart, one year ago.

Gloria is survived by her deeply devoted husband Dennis, of 41 years. They were married in northern Minnesota on March 19, 1977. She has a sister, Susan (TN), brother, Tom (AZ), brother, Rick (TX), sister-in-law, Heidi (TX), and many nieces and nephews spread over the country who she enjoyed following on Facebook.

Gloria is lovingly remembered by her oldest daughter, Stephanie (Shayne) Orth; her son, Brian (Nicole) Kersey and her youngest daughter, Debb Whitt. She enjoyed spending holidays with and watching her grandkids, Dillon, Jordan, DJ, Neysa, Izabel, and Mara grow over the years. Time spent traveling to California and Tennessee to see the two youngest granddaughters, Izzy and Mara, brought special joy to Grandma and Grandpa Kersey in recent years.

Gloria was born in McCook, Nebraska. She grew up on a small family farm in Palisade, Nebraska, graduated from Palisade High, and briefly attended McCook Community College. She held various jobs during her working years, and brought humor and laughter to most tasks. She enjoyed talking about being “a lunch lady” while living in Sioux Falls, emphasizing that she really disliked getting up early in the morning, “before the crack of dawn for Pete’s sake!” In 2013, she was able to fulfill her dream of retiring/moving to the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Gloria was an animal lover. She had cats, dogs, birds, and a passion for flowers and horses her entire life. She had a creative side, loved music, and was a beautiful sketch artist and painter in her younger years. She relished camping with her husband Dennis, took some awesome trips to San Francisco and Italy with her daughter Stephanie, and most recently cruised with the whole Brian Kersey/Post family to the Caribbean!

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday July 14, 2017 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.
