Texas dominates as National High School Finals Rodeo wraps up

GILLETTE, Wyo. - Texas dominated the team standings as the National High School Finals Rodeo wrapped up Saturday night in Gillette.

Texas finished on top of the team standings in the overall, girls and boys.

South Dakota finished fifth in the overall, 10th in the boys standings and fourth in the girls standings.

Wall's Cash Wilson wrapped up a good year, finishing fifth in the aggregate in saddle bronc riding. He was one of eight South Dakota competitors who qualified for Saturday's short go.

Also in the short go were Sydney Theobald of Fort Pierre and Jill Donnelly of Elk Point in barrel racing, Colt Hokana of Columbia in the bareback, Riley Donnelly of Elk Point in the pole bending, Trig Olson of Prairie City in the steer wrestling, Reis Bruely of Willow Lake and Myles Kenzy of Iona and Zane Zilverberg of Holabird in boys cutting.

Riley Donnelly finished sixth in the average, and Hokana wrapped up an 11th place finish. Olson, who is a senior this year, also placed 11th.

Resi, Bruley, Zane, Zilverberg and Kenzy finished 14th, 15th and 18th respectively.

National champions were Brighton Bauman of Florida in the breakaway roping, Elle Eagles of Colorado in the barrel racing, Mikayla Joh Almond of North Carolina in pole bending, Sonora Schueneman of Texas in goat tying, Payton Lackey of Texas in the a bareback, Houston Brown of Miles City, Montana in the saddle bronc, Abdiel Zamora of Florida in the tie down, Tucker Allen of California in the steer wrestling, Daxon Buttars of Utah in the reined cow horse, Chaser Crouch of Texas in the boys cutting, Jiame Lynn Lucas of Texas in the girls cutting, Denton Peterson and James Flake of Arizona in the team roping and Trey Holson of Kansas in the bull riding.

Kasen York of Saratoga, Wyoming won the the all around rookie cowboy, Josey Murphey of Louisiana won the all around rookie cowgirl, Stetson Wright of Utah won the all around cowboy, and Shay Hough of Gillette won the all around cowgirl.
