Legendary biking on North Dakota's Maah Daah Hey trail
The Associated Press - July 31, 2017

MEDORA, N.D. - For mountain bikers, North Dakota's Maah Daah Hey Trail is such a treasure that people come from all over to experience it.

Its single-track trail is no wider than a bike, located where the Great Plains meet the Badlands. To use North Dakota's state slogan, it's legendary. It connects the northern and southern units of Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the western part of the state.

With elevation changes of over 10,000 feet, only the fiercest of athletes complete the 144-mile trail in one day. More typical is a multi-day trip where bikers bring along what they'll need, including biking gear, tools and camping supplies.

The rugged landscape is sprinkled with colorful wildflowers.

The town of Medora is a jumping-off point for the trail and for the national park.
