Helen Cleo (Day) Packer

Helen Cleo (Day) Packer
Helen Cleo (Day) Packer
- August 7, 2017

Helen was born August 18, 1936, to Delbert and Bernice (Griffith) Day.  She moved to Faith, SD, at a young age and attended High School there.  On June 21, 1953, Helen married the love of her life, Dale R. Packer, in Sturgis, SD.  They shared 54 years together and to their union four children were born; Nadine (Ray) Peek of Pueblo, CO, Koleen (Pete) Deleon of Riverton, WY, Bob (Lori) Packer of Sturgis, and Seline (Ed) Hawkins of Marysville, KS.  Dale and Helen raised their family in Belle Fourche, while touring the 5-state area with their very popular family band.  In the early 1970's, they started Cobb Trucking and added D & H Truck Dispatch in the late 70's.  Dale ran the business while Helen kept the books, and together they created a wonderful family business.  They toyed with retirement for a time; as snowbirds in Arizona and returning to South Dakota in the summers as campground hosts in the SD State Parks.  Dale and Helen eventually settled in Rapid City until his death in 2007.  Helen was office manager/bookkeeper for Packer Concrete until her retirement in June 2017.  Helen was an active member of her church and would welcome the opportunity to share her love for the Lord to friends and strangers.  Her faith was everything and her love of gospel music filled her days as she continued to write songs, play the piano, and sing like an angel.

Helen Cleo (Day) Packer, loving mother, adored grandmother, and proud servant of our Lord Jesus Christ passed away peacefully on August 2, 2017, in a Casper, WY, hospital.
