STURGIS, S.D. – It’s military appreciation day at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally today, and a veteran got quite a surprise Tuesday.

As part of “Mission-Thank You,” Charles Swank received a brand new Harley Davidson Motorcycle.

Adam Sandoval spearheaded “Mission-thank You,” – a cross country tour to celebrate the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedom.

"This mission has taken me all across the country. We started out in San Diego, to Los Angeles and to Tuscson on our way here. We have given away a lot of surprises and honored a lot of veterans."

Sandoval says he make seven special stops along his cross-country journey to give away a new motorcycle.

On his stop in Sturgis, Charles Swank was announced the latest winner.

Swank enlisted in the Army on September 11, 2001, following the terrorist attacks on America. He was deployed to Iraq in 2003 an infantrymen with the 82nd Airborne Division and Afghanistan in 2005, earning a Bronze star for helping one of his wounded comrades during a firefight.

Swank says he is honored to have been selected.

"I wasn't expecting this. I had no idea I was getting a bike, and when I was given the key, I was just speechless. I can't thank these guys enough."

Swank still continues to serve his community as a firefighter. He and his wife have five children and call Butler, Ohio home.
