Fatal Motorcycle Crash
Indiana motorcyclist killed in Tuesday night crash
Gary Matthews - August 9, 2017

STURGIS, S.D. - An Indiana motorcyclist was killed after a crash on Interstate 90 Tuesday night.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the 27-year-old man was riding his motorcycle eastbound on I-90 when he lost control, laying the motorcycle on its side.

The driver was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. It is the second fatality recorded so far in relation to this year's rally.

The patrol responded to 10 injury crashes yesterday -- two of them resulting in life-threatening injuries to a motorcycle driver and a motorcycle passenger. In both crashes, those involved were wearing helmets.

Overall, the patrol has reported 41 injury crashes for the year. That is ahead of last year's 28. There have been 29 non-injury crashes -- also ahead of last year.

The patrol says D.U.I. arrests remain slightly higher than last year, but drug arrests are down. The total number of citations and warnings issued also remains down over last year.
