Cindy was born June 25, 1964, in Hamilton, MT, to Gary and Barbara (Thornbrugh) Grotte.  She grew up in Watford City, ND, and graduated from Watford City High School in 1982.

Cindy loved to work and to be around people.  She started working in the Park Theater in Watford City at age 12 then worked at the Dahl House Cafe as a server at age 13 on weekends and after school.  Cindy loved and looked forward to visiting her grandmother, Peggy, aunt, Sandy, uncle, Tony, uncle, Joe, aunt, Judy, and her cousin, Stacy, and all of her other cousins in Victor, MT, every year.  Cindy and Arny were married at Watford City and lived and worked there and in Alexander, ND, until moving to Sturgis, SD, in 1991 to run Mom’s restaurant for many years.  They also opened and ran The Last Ride on Junction.  They moved to Gillette, WY, in early 2007.

She would drive to Sturgis as often as possible to see her grandchildren and to attend as many sports activities as possible.  She was passionate and defensive of all of her grandchildren.

She was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2009 and survived that for 8 years.  She held numerous jobs in Gillette, her favorite and last being at Advance America.  She and her boss, Tonya, became the best of friends.  They were like Peanut Butter and Jelly; they planned to get tattoos, each with a slice of bread with peanut butter and jelly.  She also was blessed with another best friend in Jessica Jones.  Jess lived across the street from Cindy and Arny.  Jess was always stopping in to check on her and she organized a benefit auction for Cindy in Gillette.  She worked at Advance America up until being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.  After being diagnosed with her 2nd cancer, she wanted nothing more than to move back home to Sturgis.

Cindy Marie Vetter, 53, Sturgis and Gillette, passed away Monday, August 6, 2017, in Rapid City, SD.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 35 years, Arnold Vetter;  son, Gary (Alicia) Vetter of Sturgis, and their children, Kiara, Dylan, and Ayden; son, Bryan Vetter of Gillette, WY, and his children, Jaiven and Gabe; daughter, Nicole (James) Dean of Burt, IA, and their children, Dustin, Skyliar, Jaedyn, Braxton, and Teagan; her parents, Gary and Barbara Grotte of Sturgis; brother, Chad (Rhonda) Grotte of Malta, MT;  and also her dog, Moto.

Cindy was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Wayne Grotte; aunt, Jann Grotte; uncle, Tony Thornbrugh; grandparents, Wayne and Peggy Thornbrugh and Joel and Edyth Grotte; Arnold’s mother, Marlene Vetter; and Arnold’s grandparents, Glen and Mabel Inghram and Adam and Laura Vetter.
