Highway Patrol reports three fatalities in latest report

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported three more fatalities in its latest rally report.

The patrol says an 80-year-old male from Port Arthur, Texas died of his injuries after crashing his motorcycle on U.S. Highway 385 Sunday. The rider was not wearing a helmet.

On Wednesday, the patrol says a 50-year-old female from Maryland died after her motorcycle collided with a Crown Victoria at the intersection of Neck Yoke Road and Highway 16 south of Rapid City. The woman died of her injuries after being taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital. Her riding partner, a 48-year-old male, was also involved and suffered life-threatening injuries.

Another fatality occurred this morning when a 2005 Dodge Durango rolled on I-90, two miles east of Kadoka. The patrol says a 37-year-old female passenger from Rapid City was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt. The 58-year-old male driver from Black Hawk suffered serious, non life-threatening injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt. A 3-year-old child was also wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The patrol says they investigated seven other crashes over the past 24 hours that resulted in injuries.

Injury crashes overall during the rally remain up over last year with 51, compared to 39 on this date last year.
