STURGIS, S.D. – Dawson Gueke scored 20 points, seven of them down the stretch, as the Sturgis Scoopers fended off a late Hill City rally to win 70-60 Tuesday night.
The Rangers hung with Scoopers all night – at one point, leading by three in the fourth quarter.
Sturgis, however, got easy layups from Gueke in the waning minutes to pull ahead and stay ahead.
On a cool shooting night from the beyond the 3-point arc, Hill City managed to chip away the Scooper lead all night long. The Rangers outscored the Scoopers 18-16 in the third quarter, and briefly took the lead in the fourth on a layup by Ryan Skillingstad. But the Scoopers were quick in getting down the floor, and got several easy buckets in return.
Hill City was led by Skillingstad’s 21 points. Ryan Garland added 17-points for the Scoopers who are now 6-0.
