DEADWOOD, S.D. - According to statistics recently released by the South Dakota Commission on Gaming, the July 2017 gaming handle showed a slight increase of 0.57 percent, with slot machine handle increasing by 1.77 percent when compared to July 2016. The table game handle was down 14.91 percent, when compared to July 2016 numbers. Deadwood gaming operators rewarded players with $1,469,543 in "free-play" for the month of July. Taxable adjusted gross revenues were $9,925,440 for July 2017.

"In a role reversal to recent trends, July 2017 Deadwood gaming revenues were slightly up, while Deadwood hotel occupancy numbers fell," said Mike Rodman, executive of the Deadwood Gaming Association. "While one month doesn't make a trend, we hope this is the beginning of a more positive outlook for Deadwood gaming."

Deadwood Hotel occupancy rates for July 2017 slid when compared with July 2016 numbers. According to monthly data released this week by Deadwood's City Finance Office, hotels in Deadwood had an occupancy rate of 74.49 percent for July 2017, which is a 2.11 percent decrease over July 2016. July hotel occupancy shows Deadwood hotels sold 1,003 less room nights this July than last year.

" Deadwood's July occupancy rate of decrease trended worse than the national July occupancy rate decrease of 0.5 percent," said Rodman. "However, Deadwood's overall occupancy rate was just above the national occupancy rate of 73.8 percent for July 2017."

Currently an expansion project at Cadillac Jack's Resort includes a 108 room Tru by Hilton Hotel, scheduled to be open early next summer.
