I-90 Accident
Driver going wrong way causes accident on I-90 exit
News Staff - September 9, 2017

RAPID CITY, S.D. - An accident involving three vehicles resulted in injuries at Rapid City Friday.

The accident involved a van and two pickups towing trailers.

According to South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Clay Kartak, a woman driving the van took a wrong exit onto the interstate, ending up driving west in the eastbound lane.

The van collided with a pickup and a trailer, creating further problems across the median.

"The trailer crashed into the median, striking a light pole," Kartak said. "The light pole fell down onto the westbound interstate of I-90, and there was another pickup and trailer traveling westbound that collided with the light."

The woman driving the van was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital. Her condition is not known at this time.

The accident temporarily closed I-90’s Exit 59 eastbound while crews cleaned up the accident.
