Zachery Yellow Boy
Rapid City inmate placed on escape status
News Staff - October 9, 2017

RAPID CITY, S.D.  - Authorities say a minimum-security inmate has been placed on escape status after failing to return to his assigned housing unit from his work release employment.

Zachery Yellow Boy, age 26, was due back at the Rapid City Community Work Center just before midnight October 6. Escape procedures were enacted when he failed to return on time.

Yellow Boy is serving a two-year sentence for grand theft and a seven-year sentence with two years suspended for intentional damage to property. Both sentences originated in Pennington County.

Yellow Boy is Native American, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who sees Yellow Boy or knows of his whereabouts should contact local law enforcement immediately.

Failing to return to custody following an assignment or temporary leave constitutes second-degree escape, a Class 5 felony, and is punishable by a maximum of five years in prison.

South Dakota Codified Law 22-11A-5 states that any person who conceals any prisoner knowing that the prisoner has escaped is guilty of a Class 5 felony.
