Lawrence Albert Schallenkamp, 78 of Deadwood, passed away on November 4, 2017 at the Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital. Larry was born on January 31, 1939 to Anthony “Tony” and Marie Ann (Wermers) Schallenkamp in Bridgewater, SD. He spent his childhood in the Lead-Deadwood area graduating from St. Patrick's High School in 1957.

Larry married Patricia Crane in June of 1960. They had three children; Dean, Brenda, and Traci.

He made a living in the Black Hills area working in Law Enforcement in Lawrence County. He moved to Gillette in the 80's, working operations in a coal mine. Larry returned to the Black Hills after retirement and he continued to work in mining for a few years before retiring completely.

Larry spent his time with family and friends doing what he loved, fishing and hunting. He spent his spare time wood-working at home.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Dean Schallenkamp of Deadwood, Brenda (Dennis) Sabo of Deadwood, and Traci (Mike) Tusha of Wasilla, AK; grandchildren, Kassondra (Jesse) Kosch, Allenspark CO, Derek (Erin) Schallenkamp, Port Orchard, WA and Brandon (Jennifer) Sabo, The Dells, OR; and five great-grandchildren. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Marie; and sister, Carol Bradley.

Memorials may be given to the Deadwood VFW in Larry’s honor.

A Celebration of Larry's life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel, 80 Dunmire Dr, Lead, SD. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
