Sturgs kicks off the holiday season
News Staff - November 21, 2017

STURGIS, SD – It will be a much different picture on Main Street Sturgis this year. As the holidays approach, Santa and his reindeer have smooth sailing down a completely renovated main street that boasts a warm, friendly and shopping-friendly atmosphere.

Last year’s ongoing construction work on the major undertaking put a damper on holiday festivities and shopping but this season, the community will experience its first shopping and holiday party season in a space devoid of heavy equipment and road blocks.

Already in the books is this year’s Sturgis Festival of Trees, held earlier in November. The popular event that includes an auction, raises money for such organizations as Hospice of the Northern Hills, the First Interstate Bank Greater Sturgis Area Foundation and Main Street Beautification projects. More information is available at sturgisfestivaloftrees.com

Coming to the community on Saturday, November 25, 2017 is Small Business Saturday.  Shoppers can find unique and useful Christmas gifts throughout Sturgis with specials running from 10:00am – 5:00pm.

Welcoming in the holidays and visitors, the Sturgis community will kick off the annual Winter Frostival that runs from November 30 – December, 2, 2017. A tree lighting ceremony is set for Thursday, November 30, 2017.  Beginning at 6:00 p.m., hot chocolate, Christmas carols and a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” will entertain all ages and set the stage for the holiday spirit. Santa Claus will be attending.  And check out the United Way booth to sign up for the children's book drive. The event will be held at the community plaza in historic downtown Sturgis.

The city lights up on Friday, December 1, 2017 with the popular Parade of Lights. The parade will begin at 6:00 p.m on Junction Avenue and will end on Main Street. Presentation of parade awards begin at 7:15 p.m. at the Sturgis Fire Hall on Ballpark Road.

The next day, lace up for the 2017 Snowflake Shuffle 3.8 Mile, Saturday, December 2, 2017 held on the New Fort Meade Gravel Path. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at Fort Meade Trailhead and the run will begin at 9 a.m. at the Ft. Meade Trailhead.  The event is free with an option to donate to Black Hills Trails Association.  The first 30 runners to cross the finish line receive a long-sleeve Snowflake Shuffle shirt.

Scrooge Night is set for Thursday, December 21, 2017 where some of the best buys of the holidays can be found at participating merchants and restaurants.
