SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team earned its sixth straight win after defeating Yellowstone Christian College, 100-27, on Tuesday night.

Abby Switzer and Cortez Standing Bear led the way for the Yellow Jacket offense, each scoring a career-high 23 points, while Alyssia Martinez and Hannah Cass each scored 13.

In the first quarter, the Green and Gold jumped out to a 7-0 lead with Switzer knocking down a three-pointer to get the first points on the board. Cass dropped two in from the line to increase the Yellow Jacket lead to 5-0, with Switzer laying one in for the final two points of the 7-0 run.

Sharnell Thomas stole the ball from the Yellow Jackets and hit Zhane Akeya under the net to score for the Centurions and trail, 7-2. From there, Black Hills State went on a 10-0 run with Gabby Doxtator grabbing a steal and going coast-to-coast to lay it in to start the run, and increase the Green and Gold lead to seven at 9-2.

With under three minutes to play in the first, the Centurions were able to squeak out two more points with Isabell Erickson hitting one in at the top of the key to trail, 17-4, before Katie Messler notched the final two points to give Black Hills State the 19-4 lead at the end of the first.

In the second quarter, the Yellow Jackets hot streak continued, with Julia Seamans knocking one down beyond the arc to give BHSU a 22-4 lead. From there, the Yellow Jackets momentum continued the rest of the contest to end the game, 100-27.

Black Hills State shot 50.7 percent (35-of-69) from the field, 36.4 percent (12-of-33) from downtown, and 94.7 percent (18-of-19) from the line. The team as a whole grabbed 43 rebounds, with 22 of them offensively. Katie Messler grabbed a team and season-high 12 rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at home on Friday, December 1 and Saturday, December 2 hosting the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and Metropolitan State University Denver. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
