North American Trick Riding introduced at Rodeo Rapid City
- January 24, 2017

RAPID CITY, SD - Back in the days of trick and fancy riding, North American cowboys and cowgirls competed for prize money at rodeos and Wild West shows, performing death defying stunts on the back of galloping horses.

Over the past decade Trick and Fancy Riding has evolved into a competitive sport once again. Tricks and stunts from the past are being performed along with new tricks invented by Trick and Fancy Riders from around the world

Rodeo Rapid City, produced by Sutton Rodeo is hosting the first qualifier for the 2017 North American Finals during stock show week. High profile trick and fancy riders ranging from 5 years old to seasoned professionals will compete in this fast paced event to win cash and prizes in their respective age divisions.

Requiring talent, grace, and a unique bond with a horse, trick riding has always been a part of rodeo's specialty acts and is known for its ability to fascinate the crowd and entertain people across the world. Rodeo Rapid City North American Trick Riding Competition will be held Wednesday, February 1 and Thursday, February 2 at 1:00 pm in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center and is free to the public.

A special performance of the Rodeo Rapid City North American Trick Riding Competition Champions will be held Thursday Feb. 2nd at 7:30 pm during the PRCA Rodeo performance.
