- January 24, 2017

RAPID CITY, SD - Cowboy Mounted Shooting is one of the fastest growing equestrian sports in the nation and its coming to Rodeo Rapid City during the Black Hills Stock Show.

Mounted shooting contestants compete in this fast action, timed event, using two .45 caliber single action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition.  Dressed in 1800 western clothing, they do their best to hit all 10 targets since each miss counts as a five second penalty.

Mounted Shooting competitions sanctioned by the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, Roswell, NM and Dakota Running Irons in Wessington Springs, SD, will be held Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 9:00 am and Friday, February 3, 2017 at 1:00 pm in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center and is free to the public.
