Shot of winter moving in to area; advisories posted

STURGIS, S.D. - Get ready for the first real shot of winter as the National Weather Service posts winter weather advisories for all of Western South Dakota.

Forecasters say the potent weather system will move through northeast wyoming and western South Dakota Monday, bringing snow and very strong winds to the area.

Upslope enhanced snow is expected with this system, with 6 inches or more expected across the higher elevations of Wyoming, northern and central Black Hills. That's where a Winter Storm Warning is in effect.

Lighter amounts of snow are expected the plains, but very strong northwest winds will produce areas of blowing and drifting snow along with poor visibility in open areas.

The Sturgis area is expected to see 1 to 3 inches of snow. Spearfish could see a little more.

The winter storm advisories and warnings are in effect until 5:00 p.m. Monday.
