Deadwood Gaming Revenue Report
Deadwood Gaming Distributes $15,726,356 to Governmental Entities through Gaming Revenue Taxes in FY 2017
News Staff - December 4, 2017

DEADWOOD, S.D. - The South Dakota Commission on Gaming today released their Fiscal Year 2017 (July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017) annual report showing distributions to state, county, municipal governments and school districts totaling $15,726,356 from gaming revenue taxes paid by Deadwood Gaming operators.

"These governmental entities rely on the revenues produced by the Deadwood gaming industry," said Mike Rodman, Executive Director of the Deadwood Gaming Association.  "This is why a healthy gaming industry is vital to the interests of all South Dakotans."

"Total adjusted gross gaming revenue for the 2017 fiscal year was $98,591,769, a decrease of 6.31% from fiscal year 2016." Rodman continued, "Despite the decrease, the industry is proud that we generated $3,117,404 for the South Dakota Department of Tourism, $2,928,062 to the state general fund, $100,000 to South Dakota Historic Preservation, $779,351 to Lawrence County, $279,125 to the municipalities of Spearfish, Lead, Whitewood and Central City and another $279,125 to the Lead/Deadwood, Spearfish, Meade and Belle Fourche school districts with the balance of the distribution, after administrative costs, going primarily to the historic preservation and restoration in the City of Deadwood."

"The Deadwood Gaming Association and the 1,593 direct employees in the Deadwood gaming industry are proud of the positive financial impacts of Deadwood gaming throughout South Dakota."

From the Executive Summary of the recently released State of the States report by the American Gaming Association, "In the future, states that see enduring growth in gaming tax revenues will be those that adopt a progressive mindset when it comes to regulation and encourage operators to continually reinvest in their offerings."
