Poor visibility leads to No Travel Advisory on I-90 east of the Black Hills
Gary Matthews - December 4, 2017

RAPID CITY, S.D. - A potent winter storm moving through the area has brought a lot of wind -- and that is causing problems with the snow that is also falling.

South Dakota's Department of Public Safety says there is a no travel advisory on I-90 between Ellsworth Air Force Base and Wall. Law enforcement says visibility is less than one eighth of a mile with blowing and drifting snow. Roads are ice to snow covered and slippery across most of the area Monday morning.

There is also a no travel advisory in effect for Highway 34 between Sturgis and Union Center.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the Black Hlls, where six inches of snow or more could fall. In the surrounding foothills of Sturgis and Spearfish, lesser amounts are expected, but blowing snow is also causing visibility problems.

Several school districts have closed for the day, including Meade 46-1,  Spearfish, Newell, Faith, Dupree and Timber Lake.
